Katie McMahon, LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S

Katie is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She is a graduate of Sam Houston State University. Katie is an adjunct professor at Sam Houston State University.  She has experience in providing expert witness testimony in court and is a former child advocate.

Research interests include the effects of play therapy on children with trauma backgrounds.

Amanda Beeman, MA, LPC, CAS


Amanda is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Autism Specialist. She graduated from Sam Houston State University and is dedicated to providing quality mental health services to her community. Her specialities include Autism and Trauma. She has presented at state and international conferences as an expert in Autism. Additional interests include working with the student population of Sam Houston State University.

Research interests include trauma and neurodevelopment, social-emotional regulation in autism spectrum disorder, and clinical supervision for graduate students in counseling programs.

Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Sarah Favilla, MA, LBA, BCBA

Sarah is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She is a graduate from Ball State University with a Master's degree in Special Education. While primarily focused on Autism Spectrum Disorder, she has worked with individuals with a variety of diagnoses, both medical and psychiatric. Sarah's experience includes working with children as young as 18 months and adults well into their 80s. She is passionate about the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and the positive changes it can bring.

Katie is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. She is a graduate from the University of Texas at Tyler. With a client-centered approach, Katie enjoys walking with clients as they explore their physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. Her areas of interest are trauma, anxiety, relationships, self worth and life transitions.

Kaitlyn Schenk, M.A., Supervised by Katie McMahon LPCS

Meet Kaitlyn! She is a graduate of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program from Sam Houston State University. She has a passion for children and normalizing mental health care! She is fluent in American Sign Language and looks forward to bringing counseling to the Deaf community in their language. Kaitlyn works with clients of all ages, backgrounds, and needs. She is currently working to become a Registered Play Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Kaitlyn operates from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach for adults and adapts to meet the specific needs of her clientele. Kaitlyn will rejoin Rise as an LPC-Associate supervised by Katie McMahon, LPC-S.

Keira Tademy, M.A., Supervised by Katie McMahon LPCS

Keira is a graduate of Sam Houston State's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with specialization in play therapy. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Sam Houston State University in May 2018. Keira has experience working with children and adolescents in childcare, school, and therapeutic settings. She has also worked with young adults in both college and therapeutic settings. Keira will rejoin Rise as an LPC-A supervised by Katie McMahon, LPC-S.

Research interests include transition across the lifespan, identity concerns, and trauma in individuals of all ages

Shelby Georgi

Shelby is a graduate of the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Sam Houston State University.  Shelby will be a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is guided by Existential Therapy with a Person-Centered/Emotional focus. She believes that counseling is best served when the clients are able to take the sessions in whatever direction benefits them. Shelby truly believes in the power of family and social systems, hence her passion for working with children, individuals, couples, and families.

Renee Gardner

Renee is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern from Sam Houston State University with a client-centered approach to counseling.  She believes that all people have the potential to reach their personal wellness goals.  She has experience working with adolescents and adults both in school and therapeutic settings and has a passion for working with trauma, anxiety and life transitions.

Ashley Klasing

Ashley is a masters level counseling intern at Sam Houston State University. She graduated in 2019 from Texas State University with a BA in Psychology. Ashley has experience working with adults and adolescents in therapeutic settings. She is interested in working with adolescents, building a strong relationship of trust with them, and helping them overcome the challenges they face.

Catherine Castillo

Catherine Castillo is a student at Lamar University earning an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling as well as a student at Townsend Institute becoming a certified coach.  She holds a BA in Psychology and an MBA in Management and Strategy. She currently work as a Sr. Technical Trainer for a large corporation focusing on sales, product application, and organizational health. She is passionate about working with people to help bring awareness and healing as well as growth and understanding into their lives.  She enjoys gardening and hiking and her favorite place to be is a white sand beach with turquoise waters lapping the shore.

Tristan Myrick

Tristan is a Masters Level Counseling Student Intern pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Sam Houston State University. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Sam Houston State in 2019. Tristan is determined to build a relationship of trust with his clients and emphasize self-acceptance. He is also passionate about providing therapeutic services for individuals with physical disabilities. Research interests include self-esteem and identity, anxiety, and trauma.

Masters Level Intern

Danika Anaya

Danika earned her Bachelor of Education in Counseling and Community Psychology from New Mexico State University in 2016. She is a current masters counseling student at Sam Houston State University. Danika has worked with individuals with intellectual disorders and their families for six years through local health authorities and providers. She also has experience working trauma, anxiety and depression amongst adolescents and adults. She is working toward earning her play therapy certificate, as well a certification in equine assisted therapy. She is guided by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. She is passionate about working with individuals in develop their strengths, achieve their goals, and maintaining a healthy level of balance within their lives.

Rachel DeLoach

Rachel is a masters level intern at Sam Houston State University in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She  received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University in May 2020. Rachel maintains a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach with empathy and authenticity.
